For the past five weeks, and by permission of Terence’s mother, the work I have done with Terence has been divided into two areas. (1) Building Terence’s self-confidence, and (2) developing English Language skills. Terence has been unhappy in many ways. This has reflected in his behaviour, and his learning. To assist Terence, we have worked together on building his self-confidence, self-esteem and self-belief. I have taught Terence on a one to one basis for two sessions. This is working much better for him as he is able to concentrate for longer periods of time when there are no distractions. His last essay was an improvement on previous work and shows that he did make an effort. We are still working on grammar and punctuation using the Grade 6 Excel Workbooks. This week’s lessons have concentrated on vocabulary and essay writing on the theme of Plastics and the Environment. Terence is a good student and engages in the sessions. However, he gets a little distracted and loses some concentration during the lesson. But I pull him back into the lesson when this happens and he is fine again for a while. Terence has good ideas. I have had two sessions with Terence this week. He is a delight to teach, and he seems to enjoy the online methods. He works well in the session, and he contributes to the conversation. His homework needs a little more concentration so that the sentences and essays are as accurate as possible. But at this stage he is doing well.
